Stefanos Tsitsipas had eight break chances in the first set of the quarterfinals at the ATP Tour 500 tournament in Astana against Hubert Hurkacz. The Pole knew how to parry all eight opportunities. And so a tie-break had to make the decision, Tsitsipas won it after defending five set balls from Hurkacz. In the interview after his victory, Tsitsipas emphasized how important it was for him to win this quick decision.
In the second act, the Greek, number three in Astana, then showed greater efficiency: Tsitsipas used his first break opportunity to make it 5: 3 and served safely to move into the semi-finals. Hurkacz couldn't get a single breakball in the entire match.
Djokovic and Medvedev on a collision course
In the semifinals, Andrey Rublev is waiting for Stefanos Tsitsipas. the Russian didn't linger long with Adrian Mannarino, winning 6-1 and 6-2.
In the lower half of the tableau, Novak Djokovic and Karen Khachanov as well as Roberto Bautista Agut and Daniil Medvedev will face each other later on Friday in the two remaining quarterfinal matches.
