Jannik Sinner beat Andrey Rublev in two sets

Andrey Rublev is not considered to be the man to beat at the ATP 500 level for nothing: the Russian won 23 matches in a row before the semifinals in Dubai in this tournament category before Aslan Karatsev finished his compatriot's run. In Barcelona Rublev wanted to lay the foundation for a new series, but Jannik Sinner thwarted this plan.

Because the 19-year-old prevailed in the quarter-finals of the clay court classic in the Catalan capital with 6: 2 and 7: 6 (6) against the world number seven. After the first set was relatively clear to Sinner, he even had to fend off a set ball in the tie-break of the second round. He did this with flying colors, two points later he finished the match with an ace.

For the first time in his young career, the Italian is in the semifinals of an ATP clay court event. In this he will face Monte Carlo winner Stefanos Tsitsipas on Saturday. The Greek gave Felix Auger-Aliassime no chance in the 6: 3 and 6: 3 success.
