ATP Basel: Etcheverry beats Murray after a great fight

Before the round of 16 encounter at the ATP 500 tournament in Basel, the opponent of the former world number one Andy Murray was out for revenge, after all the Argentinian Tomas Martin Etcheverry lost the only encounter so far against him at the Masters tournament in Indian Wells in the spring despite leading the set Scots.

The decisive factor in this set was the seventh game, which went over a total of seven times and in which Murray was unable to take advantage of a total of four break opportunities. With only one point lost, the 24-year-old Etcheverry served confidently to tie the set at 5:3.

The full intensity of the match was evident in the first game of the third act. Etcheverry won three running balls, all of which Murray fended off spectacularly. Nevertheless, the world number 32 was able to. from Argentina secured the break with two point wins in a row. The 36-year-old Murray never gave up, but had to give up his service again. After 3:07 hours, Etcheverry won 6:7 (5), 6:3, 6:2.

In the quarterfinals, Etcheverry will face the winner of the encounter Sebastian Baez from Argentina against the top seeded Dane Holger Rune, who will be coached by Boris Becker for the first time at this tournament.
