At the ATP 250 event in Bastad, two seasoned clay court specialists grabbed the chance to return to their beloved underground straight after Wimbledon: Casper Ruud and Cristian Garin. A decision that promptly brings success, both players are in the quarter-finals in Sweden - and have not really been pushed to their limits in the tournament so far.
In the Scandinavian duel between youngster Holger Rune and Casper Ruud, the former was unable to oppose the favorite. The eagerly awaited game turned into an overly clear matter: With 6: 0 and 6: 2 Ruud bought his ticket for the round of the last eight. There it is now against the Swiss Henri Laaksonen, who defeated Elias Ymer in two sets. In the second quarter-finals in the upper half of the tableau Roberto Carballes Baena and Norbert Gombos meet, the former surprisingly beat the Italian Fabio Fognini.
Hanfmann in the quarterfinals
On the lower half of the draw, a German made it to the quarter-finals: Yannick Hanfmann defeated the serving giant Jiri Vesely in two sets and now meets the French Arthur Rinderknech. This knocked the number four seeded Australian John Millmann out of the tournament in a three-set battle.
Cristian Garin, number two in the draw, was as little naked as Capser Ruud in his round of 16 duel with Pedro Martinez, who had defeated Dennis Novak in the first round. The Chilean won 6: 3 and 6: 3. In the round of the last eight it is now against Federico Coria, who defeated Marco Cecchinato in three sets.
