Borna Coric's last tournament appearance was taking part in the indoor event in Rotterdam last year

It's tough times for Borna Coric: The Croatian will drop out of the top 100 of the ATP ranking next Monday - for the first time since December 29, 2014. And it's still not certain when the 25-year-old will return to the men's team -Tour can return. The southern European played his last tournament in Rotterdam in early March 2021. He then underwent shoulder surgery in New York City in May of last year. Since then, the tennis community has been waiting for the comeback of the two-time ATP Tour tournament winner.

Returning to Indian Wells?

At first, Coric wanted to celebrate his return to Australia and had even been one of the first professionals to travel down under. In the end, it didn't work out either with the preparatory tournaments or with the Australian Open itself. At the time he said he was close to 100 percent, but wanted to make sure not to rush anything in the last phase of the healing process. The next goal was then the ATP World Tour 500 event in Dubai. But Coric had to withdraw again from the tournament in the capital of Qatar.

Hopefully Indian Wells next stop. At the ATP Masters 1000 event in the Californian desert, the former world number twelfth would be represented in the main field by means of a protected ranking. Not only his fans will keep their fingers crossed that the maltreated right shoulder will finally hold up and the talented man from Zagreb can present his best tennis again.
