Since Jason Kubler has not yet been on the court against Rafael Nadal on the tour, he should get to know the intensity of the 22-time Grand Slam champion's game from the start. The Mallorcan started at full speed from the start and allowed his opponent just one point in the first three games. After the 37-year-old extended his lead to 5-0, the Australian was able to score with a served serve game before Nadal saved the set by fending off three running break balls.

In the second act, the 30-year-old Kubler had to give up his first service game before he found a better rhythm in the following service games. Nevertheless, Nadal remained boss in the ring and won 6:1, 6:2 after 75 minutes.

"I played very well. Before the match I saw videos of him playing very well from the baseline. I'm just happy that I'm feeling good and that I've come back like this so far. I just need matches now, and Every hour on the court helps me," said Nadal in an on-court interview.

In the quarterfinals, Jordan Thompson, who benefited from the rejection of No. 4 seeded Frenchman Ugo Humberg, is the next Australian waiting for the former world number one.
