The world number 71. won against Thiago Agustin Tirante with 2: 6, 6: 3 and 6: 4 and now meets the winner of the match between the five seeded Albert Ramos-Vinolas and Holger Vitus Nodskov Rune.
Top seed at the 250 clay court tournament is Diego Schwartzman.
Daniel Altmaier missed the only one in the main field. He lost to Jaume Munar in the final round of qualification with 3.6, 4: 6.
