ATP: Carlos Alcaraz cannot be wiped away

Carlos Alcaraz is the current record holder - in many ways. He's not easy to beat anyway.

Records, series and lists in tennis are such a thing, you can now find something for almost everything and everyone if you search long enough. Things are different with Carlos Alcaraz: You don’t become the youngest number 1 every day (neither does the oldest, Rafael Nadal almost raised his hand here, but what is not, can still be). /

So Alcaraz has replaced Lleyton Hewitt at 19 and to reach the top position, becoming only the second teenager after Pete Sampras to win at Flushing Meadows. And another from the "impressive numbers" category: the youngest major winner since Rafael Nadal in 2005, when he won the French Open for the first time.

Carlos Alcaraz: That's called a one-set!

Rather in the "new interesting numbers" is a number that the ATP knocked out in the course of the US Open final: the 65. Because Alcaraz has now managed to win at least one set for so many matches in a row. Conversely, this means that you can't really wipe away the Spaniard - even if he ends up losing.

Hugo Gaston made it most recently - at the Paris Masters in November 2021. Here the Frenchman won 6: 4, 7: 5. Since then, Alcaraz has had a match record of 56:9. And in all 9 defeats he stole at least one sentence from his conqueror: Matteo Berrettini in Melbourne, Rafael Nadal in Indian Wells, Sebastian Korda in Monte Carlo, Alexander Zverev in Roland Garros, Jannik Sinner in Wimbledon, Lorenzo Musetti in Hamburg, Sinner in again Umag, Tommy Paul in Montreal and Cameron Norrie in Cincinnati.

Where is the record - and who set it? Has not yet been explored. But it is also a relatively young list.
