It's been quite some time since Andy Murray won a professional tennis tournament: it was in the fall of 2019 when he defeated Stan Wawrinka in the Antwerp final. At that time there were 250 points for the championship. With today's success against Tommy Paul in Aix-en-Provence, Murray got no less: The 2: 6, 6: 1 and 6: 2 against the American, who was in first place, was worth 175 points for the ATP charts .
After the disappointing performances on sand so far, Murray had considered maybe only really attacking again on grass. With the coup in the strong challenger, the two-time gold medalist at the Olympic Games made up ten places in the ATP world rankings and was ranked 42nd in the live ranking.
Incidentally, Tommy Paul was the only opponent of Murray who did not come from the host country France: In round one it was against Gael Monfils, then against Laurent Lokoli, the youngster Luca van Assche and in the semifinals Harold Mayot. Murray's next appearance is expected at the Italian Open in the Foro Italico. The ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Rome starts in the middle of next week.
