The footsteps for future generations of Swiss tennis are not only excessively large because of Roger Federer's successes. No, Stan Wawrinka has also presented a record with his three major titles that is basically unattainable. Comparisons of players from the youth level with these two legends are pointless and therefore forbidden.

But if, like in 2020, two young Swiss people reach the final of a Grand Slam tournament, you should take a closer look. Dominic Stricker won the final against Leandro Riedi, and since then the two have marched through the institutions. Stricker has arrived at position 119, Riedi a little behind.

Riedi into the final without dropping a set

But that could change today. Because the 20-year-old right-hander plays in the final of the ATP Challenger tournament in Andria against veteran Mikhail Kukushkin for the second title within eight days. Riedi struck in Helsinki last Sunday. And that from the qualification.

Riedi immediately gained the momentum from the Finnish capital to Andria, where he defeated the number two of the tournament, Hugo Gaston, in two sets at the start, as well as all the other opponents who opposed him on the way to the final. Participation in the final against Kukushkin is worth an improvement of 23 places for Riedi (to position 173), if he also takes the title from Andria, he would even jump to rank 161.
