For Melzer it was still a strong performance in Liberec: In the first round he beat Andrej Martin, who was fourth, and then won in two sets against Frenchman Evan Furness. In the end, the tie-break of the first set was the decisive factor against Machac, which the Austrian left-hander lost 8:10. In the second set, Melzer gave up his serve early, but is still allowed to travel home with at least 15 points for the ATP world rankings.
In the semifinals, Machac will meet the Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp, the second game of the semifinals on Saturday will be played by Malek Jaziri and Alex Molcan.
