Well known to local tennis fans is 19-year-old Marko Topo (ATP 458). Born in Gräfelfinger with Serbian roots, he played his way into the main draw at the ATP Tour 500 tournament in Hamburg and at the Munich ATP event via qualification, where he had to admit defeat to the reigning Ismaning champion Oscar Otte. The main field wildcard for Max Rehberg (ATP 687), who was also allowed to present himself in the main field at the ATP tournaments in Hamburg and Munich, had been fixed for a long time. The man from Landsham travels to the “International German Indoor Tennis Championships” in top form. In Forbach, France, the 19-year-old was able to win his first title on the ITF Men's World Tennis Tour without losing a set on the fast carpet, which Ismaning also has to play on. The last wildcard to be awarded for the main draw will be fixed shortly before the draw on Saturday.

TennisBase talents in the qualification

After the cancellation of Philip Florig from Aschaffenburg due to illness, TennisBase Oberhaching will continue to be represented with two players in the qualification. 18-year-old Ludwigsburg Liam Gavrielides (ATP 1282), who competed in the Junior Grand Slam tournaments in Melbourne and Paris this season, made his third start in the qualifying competition of an ATP Challenger tournament on German soil in Ismaning. Just 15-year-old Justin Engel (ITF Juniors 309) will make his debut at this level. The man from Nuremberg caused a stir last year when he reached the U14 final of the Tennis Europe Junior Masters in Monte Carlo and lost there in two narrow sets to his compatriot Max Schönhaus. On a national level, the BTV talent inspired this year with the individual title in the Rudi Berger Cup as part of the BMW Open by American Express and the U15 team title at the Henner Henkel Games in Dachau.

An interesting player from the training group with last year's winner Oscar Otte and this year's main draw Mats Moraing can be seen in qualifying with Tom Gentzsch (ATP 809). The 19-year-old from Duisburg surprised a few weeks ago at the ITF M15 tournament in Trier, where he secured his first title on the Pro Circuit. David Fix (ITF Juniors 99) from Pforzheim will gain his first experience at challenger level. For the 17-year-old, the focus is still on the junior level, where he is aiming to start in the Junior Grand Slam tournaments next year and will also compete in the men's tour in certain cases.

Struff and Paire not at the start

Unfortunately, two players who were originally seeded according to the entry list will not be seen in Ismaning. Davis Cup hero Jan-Lennard Struff (ATP 132) canceled for family reasons and will take a short break from the tournament. The 33-year-old Frenchman Benoit Paire (ATP 168) had to miss the tournament last week due to injury and was not yet physically ready to compete in Ismaning.
