If the name of Alec Deckers does not ring one or the other tennis fan, there is no cause for concern. After all, the 21-year-old Dutchman has adopted the name of his mother and not that of his generally much better known father: Richard Krajicek. During his active time, he achieved sporty fame through his Wimbledon triumph in 1996 and dubious fame through his sexist statements regarding women's tennis ("lazy, fat pigs").
Krajicek has been the tournament director of the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam since 2004, which will also impress with an excellent field of participants at the beginning of February this year. In addition to Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas, Andrey Rublev (defending champion) or Stan Wawrinka have also named for the 2022 edition.
Already passed qualification
There is still a little time left before the ATP World Tour 500 event in the city with the largest seaport in Europe really gets going on February 7th. And this is what the famous tennis dad spends with his son at an ATP Challenger event in South America - more precisely in Buenos Aires. The youngster, currently listed at position 975 in the ATP rankings, also successfully passed the qualification at the clay court event endowed with around 38,000 US dollars.
Admittedly, the field of participants in the Argentine capital could also be that of a well-manned 15-man future tournament - after all, the cut was at ATP rank 564. But the moment has to be used first. In the first round of the main draw, Deckers faces local hero Gonzalo Villanueva (ATP 436). It remains to be seen how the young Dutchman will develop in the coming months and years - tennis actually runs in the family here.
