Yannick Hanfmann's performances at the ATP Challenger tournament in Rio de Janeiro are really impressive: the German Davis Cup player has played four matches so far, winning eight sets and not losing a single one. Yes, no opponent of Hanfmann has managed to win more than four games in one set. Neither did Alexandre Muller in the semifinals on Saturday. Hanfmann prevailed without any problems with 6:3 and 6:3.
In the final, Marco Cecchinato is now a man who reached the semifinals at the French Open in 2018, in which he then lost against Dominic Thiem. Cecchinato defeated tournament favorite Federico Coria 1: 6, 6: 3 and 6: 3 in Rio on Saturday.
The signs are not bad for Hanfmann: He was able to win all three previous duels against the Italian. Two on the Challenger Tour and at the 250cc in Cagliari last year. With Max Rehberg, a second German alongside Hanfmann has the chance of a Challenger title on Sunday: Rehberg meets Quentin Halys in the Ismaning final.
