Rodionov lost 6-7, 6-2, 2-6 to Italy's Mattia Bellucci in the semifinals and will not have the chance to play for a third title at Challenger level in 2022. In the spring, the 23-year-old triumphed in Biel and Mauthausen.
In the ATP ranking, Rodionov will still make up around twelve places by reaching the semifinals, in the current live ranking he is in 128th place.
Rodionov will (still) remain number 1 in Austria after Dominic Thiem also missed the final in Gijon.
Thiem, however, has improved a lot in the past few weeks and is about to crack the top 100 again soon. With his victories in Gijon, he climbs 33 places in the live ranking and is listed at number 132.
