Dominic Thiem lost to Filip Krajinovic

As one of the top favorites, Dominic Thiem came to New York for a double, but at least part one was more than disappointing for the Austrian. After a terrifying performance, the 26-year-old had to face the world number 32. Krajinovic accept a bad 2: 6 and 0: 6 defeat.

Thiem got off to a solid start on court 10 and played his first two service games. After that, the third in the world rankings, who didn't seem completely fit, didn't work together anymore: Krajinovic secured the next seven games and was in the lead 6: 2 and 3: 0 in the meantime.

Only then was Thiem granted a game win again, but this should not be the start of a wonderful comeback. Krajinovic stayed on the trigger and fixed the undisputed 6: 2 and 6: 1 success after just over an hour of play. The Serb now meets Grigor Dimitrov or Marton Fucsovics.

For Thiem it will now be about clearing up possible physical complaints in order to be able to attack at the US Open. The Grand Slam tournament at Flushing Meadows begins on August 31st.
