Jannik Sinner has to qualify in Cincinnati

As of now, Jannik Sinner is leading the seed list for the qualification tournament for the then first ATP Masters 1000 tournament of the year (after that only one should follow - in Rome). The Italian is in position 73 in the current world rankings and most recently played at the invitation event in Berlin. First on grass, then on hard court, where he lost to Dominic Thiem in the final. For Sinner it will only be the second appearance at a 1000cc: in 2019 he started with a wildcard in Rome, where he won in round one against Steve Johnson from the USA.

However, it is not out of the question that the South Tyrolean will once again get a place in the 64 grid. That's when a player should decide not to travel to New York City.

Gasquet and Simon try to qualify

Also in the qualification is Corentin Moutet, who has participated in the Ultimate Tennis Showdown in Patrick Mouratoglou's academy over the past few weeks. The Frenchman was there in the semi-finals on Sunday, but could not assert himself against Alexander Zverev. In qualifying, Moutet may also face two renowned compatriots: Richard Gasquet and Gilles Simon will also try their luck in Cincinnati.

The four wildcards for the traditional event, which was relocated to New York City due to the corona pandemic, received two Americans in addition to two-time winner Andy Murray: Tommy Paul, Frances Tiafoe and Tennys sandgren.
