Jannik Sinner had to dig deep into his bag of tricks: After the 19-year-old Italian won the first set against Gilles Simon in the first quarter-finals of the second ATP Tour 250 tournament in Cologne with 6: 3, Sinner lost eight games in a row, was suddenly 0: 2 behind in the decisive round. The teenager struggled and showed nerves of steel in the very last game. Simon had three more chances to equalize at 5: 5. Sinner no longer allowed this.

So Jannik Sinner is now waiting for the German number one, Alexander Zverev. The winner of the previous week's tournament will face Adrian Mannarino from France in the first evening game. Zverev only recently defeated Mannarino in four sets at the US Open. Alexander Zverev still has an open plan with Sinner: He catapulted him out of the tournament at the French Open.

In the lower half of the tableau, Diego Schwartzman meets Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina, Félix Auger-Aliassime will play against Yoshihito Nishioka from Japan in the last quarter-finals in Cologne.
