Germany's top player Alexander Zverev is in the final of the ATP tournament in Cologne. The 23-year-old from Hamburg, number one in the cathedral city, won the semi-finals against the Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 7: 5, 7: 6 (3). In the final on Sunday, Zverev will meet the number two seeded Roberto Bautista Agut or Felix Auger-Aliassime.

"I don't care who it's up against," said Zverev on the WDR microphone: "I wish both of them good luck in the semi-finals."

Davidovich Fokina made life a little difficult for the tournament favorites. The 21-year-old played aggressively and always dared to go online, but Zverev quickly adjusted and went on the offensive. Above all, the service game of the world number seven convinced. In the first set alone, Zverev got seven aces.

A similar picture emerged in the second movement. Zverev got his first break to 3-1. Davidovich Fokina didn’t give up, but fought his way back and got his first break to 3: 4.

After that, the match remained open. After almost 100 minutes played, Zverev had the first opportunity to win the match at 6: 5, but could not use it and had to go into the tie-break. In which he used his third match ball after 1:56 hours. Davidovich had injured his index finger of the battering hand in the tie-break at 3-1 and was visibly impaired.

Despite the veritable flood of stops, the big tournament favorite and world number seven prevailed in the end. For Zverev, it's only the second final of the current season after the US Open. Felix Auger-Aliassime and Roberto Bautista Agut face each other in the second semi-final in Cologne. The next ATP event will start on Monday in Cologne's Lanxess Arena, and Alexander Zverev will once again lead the field.
