ATP Cologne: French Open round of 16 Daniel Atmaier receives wildcard

Daniel Altmaier is the big surprise at the current French Open in Paris and will be rewarded with a wildcard for the bett1HULKS Indoors from October 10th to 18th, 2020 in the LANXESS arena in Cologne.

After his three-set victory in Paris in round two against his compatriot Jan-Lennard Struff, the 22-year-old also defeated the current number 8 in the ATP ranking, Matteo Berrettini , in three sets with 6: 2, 7: 6 on Saturday , 6: 4 and reached the last sixteen.

Altmaier, who improved to 121st place in the ATP ranking thanks to his latest victory, will receive Andy Murray alongside the three-time Grand Slam tournament winnerthe second wildcard for the first of two consecutive ATP 250 tournaments in Cologne. Following the bett1HULKS Indoors, the bett1HULKS Championship (October 17 to 25, 2020 ) will take place at the same location.

Altmaier found out about his wildcard immediately after his success against Berrettini, live on Eurosport: Tournament director Barbara Rittner announced the good news.

Under the patronage of Cologne's Mayor Henriette Reker, the bett1HULKS are not only celebrating their premiere in the cathedral city this year, but also a world premiere: never before in the history of ATP have two professional "back2back" tournaments been held at one venue.
