Yannick Hanfmann reached the quarterfinals of the clay court tournament in Cordoba, Argentina. The 32-year-old from Karlsruhe defeated Roman Andres Burruchaga, son of Argentine football idol Jorge Burruchaga, 3:6, 6:1, 6:4. The game was interrupted on Thursday due to rain and continued in the third set on Friday.

Burruchaga (22) made his debut on the ATP tour after successfully qualifying in Cordoba. Like his famous father, he celebrated the victory in the first round over his compatriot Diego Schwartzman for the winning goal in the 1986 World Cup final against Germany. Burruchaga senior (61), who was also vice world champion in Rome in 1990, watched from the stands.

Hanfmann, number seven on the seeding list, will face the Italian Luciano Darderi in the quarterfinals. After Daniel Altmaier from Kempen was eliminated in the first round, Hanfmann is the only German in the field of the $640,705 tournament.
