In front of the eyes of the two Germans Oscar Otte and Peter Gojowczyk, who had both said goodbye in Dallas in the first lap, Jurij Rodionov was able to counter a good start by Vasek Pospisil. The Austrian kept his nerve in a hard-fought service game and prepared himself in the third game to create the first break of the game. With success, Rodionov was able to quickly pull away to 3:1.
As a result, the native of Nuremberg seemed to have things under control on the sparsely filled Center Court in Dallas. Exactly in this phase Pospisil countered with the break. With strong help from Rodionov, who acted too error-prone in this phase. After a little more than three quarters of an hour, the set went into a tie-break, in which the Austrian was able to shift up a gear and, thanks to some extremely strong forehand winners, was able to make it 7: 3 to 1: 0 sets.
Pospisil now against John Isner
The second round was balanced over long stretches. Both players put their serve well in the limelight, the receivers could not finish smaller pressure situations enough. When the score was 6:5, Rodionov won a match ball with a great net game, but Pospisil served himself very strong from this situation. Again, a tiebreak had to bring the decision.
In this Rodionov had his chances, but had to back down a bit in the decisive phase. Pospisil managed to equalize the set. A break in that match - the Austrian had now completely lost the thread, conceding an early break and quickly found himself going down 4-1. Rodionov didn't have any comebacks in his quiver that day, with 7: 6 (3), 6: 7 (6) and 2: 6 Pospisil fixed the entry into the round of eight.
In the quarterfinals, Pospisil will face the serve giant John Isner. This prevailed in a crazy fight against the South African Kevin Anderson. In, as is not uncommon for two tall servers, three tie breaks.
