It's not going well with Denis Shapovalov

Things just aren't going so well for Denis Shapovalov. The Canadian, who won the Davis Cup alongside Félix Auger-Aliassime at the end of last year, has slipped to 27th place in the ATP world rankings. At the Australian Open he failed in round three in five sets against Hubert Hurkacz. And now Shapovalov had to say goodbye to the ATP Tour 250 tournament in Dallas after his first match. Because Yibing Wu, who has only been in the top 100 since this week, beat Shapovalov 7: 6 (1) and 6: 4 and thus made it into the quarterfinals.

Things went better for the two German representatives. Daniel Altmaier had no problems with the US qualifier Zachary Svajda, winning 6:2 and 6:4. And Oscar Otte also prevailed against a local hero: The man from Cologne beat Christopher Eubanks 6:4, 4:6 and 6:2. Otte meets Marcos Giron in the round of 16, Altmaier meets John Isner.

Frances Tiafoe did not show any weaknesses in the 6: 1 and 6: 3 against Mackenzie McDonald. Tiafoe, second seeded to Taylor Fritz in Dallas, will face JJ Wolf in the quarterfinals.
