Andy Murray celebrated his first win of the season in Doha.

Almost typical of Andy Murray, the second round match against Jakub Mensik lasted over three hours, during which both players had to go through many ups and downs. The players had to go to the tie-break three times to decide the set. With the better ending for Jakub Mensik.

The first set already turned into a real thriller, in which the Brit was able to force the break in time when the score was 4:5 and extend the set. It was only in the tiebreak that the former world number one had to bow to 116th in the ATP ranking.

Wild fight until the end

The Czech made no further mistakes in the second set. Since Andy Murray didn't make any major offers to his opponent, it went back to the tiebreak. This time with the better ending for the current 50th place in the rankings. The final round started directly with the break for Jakub Mensik. Andy Murray missed the chance for a rebreak when the score was 2:3. Afterwards Mensik quickly led 5:2 and the victory seemed certain for him. But Murray once again showed his fighting heart and saved himself in the tie-break. But here his opponent has more staying power.

Mensik will now face top seed Andrey Rublev or Richard Gasquet in the quarterfinals. The match takes place in the late afternoon.
