Roger Federer did not miss the match between Dan Evans and Jeremy Chardy

History can repeat itself: When Roger Federer returned to the tour in 2017, the Swiss met Dan Evans in his first match after surviving an injury break at the Hopman Cup. Four years and two knee operations later, the 20-time Grand Slam winner dares to make another comeback attempt at the ATP 250 tournament in Doha. And this time too, the opponent will be Dan Evans.

While Federer initially enjoyed a bye in the capital of Qatar, the Briton faced Jeremy Chardy in the first round. In front of the long-time world number one, Evans won set one 6: 4 after more than an hour of play, and the second round clearly went to the French. In the third section, the 30-year-old Englishman got off to a better start and was then able to win the match.

Federer against Evans without losing a set

With the 6: 4, 1: 6 and 6: 2 success, Evans won the fourth match at ATP level with Federer. So far, the world number 28. not yet decide a sentence for yourself. It is not known whether this was also the case in the training sets that the two played in preparation for the tournament in Doha.

Should Federer prevail on Wednesday, it would not go against any seeded player in the quarter-finals. Borna Coric, originally placed eighth, canceled his participation due to an injury.
