Dominic Thiem has made many good acquaintances on the ATP tour over the years, there is basically no player with whom the 28-year-old would not get along well. And Thiem has a friendly bond with a few colleagues, such as Diego Schwartzman or Alexander Zverev. Andrey Rublev also falls into this category. So it was somehow obvious that Thiem would use the break he had chosen himself and forced on the Russian to meet Rublev to practice together.

It is obvious that the matter turned out to be sweaty. Hardly any player fires the balls in the direction of his opponent as mercilessly as Rublev, Dominic Thiem in normal form can of course counter it. How well that worked will be seen next week in Anif at the Salzburg Open. In the case of Thiem, Rublev has no ambitions to serve in the 32 field of the event, which is worth almost 135,000 euros.

Thiem then in Bastad, Gstaad, Kitzbühel

But Dennis Novak, who was the only Austrian who was represented in Wimbledon in singles, certainly did. Novak, Thiem's biggest buddy on the tour, only had four points to contest in London on Friday, then the end against Jason Kubler was sealed. Then it should go home, journey to Salzburg on Sunday, hopefully the game will start on Tuesday. The subjunctive is appropriate - in London, like at many other airports, there is a certain degree of uncertainty when it comes to travel planning.

Dominic Thiem's travel plans are pretty clear: After Salzburg we continue to Bastad, then probably to Gstaad and finally to Kitzbühel for the Generali Open. Four weeks of competitive tennis in a row - hopefully the intensive training days with Andrey Rublev will have a positive impact.
