ATP: Dominic Thiem will return to this position in Indian Wells
Dominic Thiem will lose a few more world ranking points on his comeback in Indian Wells. A placement at the first ATP Masters 1000 tournament of the year is therefore out of reach.

Everything is slowly coming back into balance in the ATP world rankings, even if some points are dropped a little later than usual: Because the Australian Open 2022 is long history, but last year the first major of the year was held later, as well as the ATP Cup. Which is why some players are only now losing their points from 2021.
Such as Novak Djokovic , whose 2,000 points for the triumph in Melbourne almost a year ago are dropped in mid-February. Or Dominic Thiem, who still has 180 points for his round of 16 entry. In addition, 50 from the ATP Cup and 90 from Rio de Janeiro, which Thiem won in 2020.
Thiem not set in Indian Wells
All in all, Dominic Thiem will start his comeback in Indian Wells with 1,070 points in the world rankings. This should place the 2020 US Open champion and 2019 Indian Wells winner just under the top 60 players in the world. So Thiem would not have to worry about a direct start ticket (not anyway - the registration deadline was six weeks before the start of the tournament).
But of course Thiem, currently ranked 39th in the ATP charts, will not enjoy a seeding and thus a bye in round one. After the long break, however, it can be assumed that Dominic Thiem cannot wait to play a professional tennis match again. Gladly also in round one in Tennis Paradise.
