Teymuraz Gabashvili tested positive for furosemide at the ATP Challenger in Almaty in June

Furosemide, known in German-speaking countries as the drug Lasix, for example, is popularly known as a "dehydrating agent". The pharmaceutical is probably on the list of substances banned by the WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) not only because of its primary effect, but also because of the drug's antihypertensive properties.

The Russian Teymuraz Gabashvili indulged himself in the preparation before or during the ATP Challenger tournament in Almaty (Kazakhstan), which took place from June 14th to 20th of this year. During the event, at which the native Georgian was eliminated in the round of 16, mandatory urine samples were collected from the players on site.

Officially suspended until July 17th, 2023

Gabashvili's trial was positive, and the Moscow-by-elect was indicted in July and now convicted in November. The ITF's official guilty verdict reads as follows: “Mr. Gabashvili admitted the anti-doping rule violation and agreed to a 20-month suspension. This begins on the day of the decision, ie November 18, 2021. "

According to the judgment, the former number 47 in the ATP rankings will only return to the tour on July 17, 2023. Gabashvili would then be 38 years old and currently ranked 269 in the men's world rankings. A return of the right-hander to the international courts of this world is therefore more than questionable.
