Jannik Sinner defeated Roberto Bautista Agut in the Dubai round of 16 in a real thriller

It was one of many talent tests that Jannik Sinner delivered on Wednesday afternoon, European time, at the Center Court in the desert city of Dubai. The only 19-year-old South Tyrolean prevailed in a real thriller of a tennis game against the experienced Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut. Sinner secured the first round 6: 4, but then had to accept the set compensation with 3: 6. In the third round of the decision, however, the 19-year-old showed better nerves and broke out to 7: 5.

In the quarter-finals, Sinner is now waiting for the winner of Lorenzo Sonego and Aslan Karatsev's round of 16 match. Andrey Rublev could wait in the semifinals, who meanwhile has 21 victories in a row at ATP 500 level and will meet Taylor Fritz in the evening.

Shapovalov versus Chardy

Like Sinner, Denis Shapovalov is already in the round of the last eight. The Canadian showed no nakedness against the Pole Hubert Hurkacz and won the quarter-finals 6: 4 and 6: 3. Unlike Sinner, Shapovalov already knows his upcoming opponent, the world number 12. meets Jeremy Chardy. Shapovalov leads 2-0 head-to-head against the French.

The field at the ATP 500 event in Dubai is wide open for a surprise, especially in the upper half of the tableau, after the tournament favorite and world number four Dominic Thiem surprisingly had to give up yesterday. Lloyd Harris, who put the Austrian in his place in two sentences, now meets Filip Krajinovic in the evening. In the quarter-finals, the winner of the clash between Kei Nishikori and Aljaz Bedene is waiting.
