Neat draw for Dominic Thiem in Estoril: The Austrian starts against a qualifier, could meet American youngster Ben Shelton in round two. For the latter, this tournament is the first appearance on European clay.
The tableau is led by Casper Ruud in front of Hubert Hurkacz and Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina. Those three and number four Roberto Bautista Agut enjoy a bye in round one.
Thiem in doubles with Sousa
With Jurij Rodionov, a second Austrian has slipped into the main field. The left-hander, who is still in the Lille Challengers semifinals today, starts against Albert Ramos-Vinolas. Sebastian Ofner could be the third red-white-red participant: The Styrian won against Robin Haase in round one of the qualification.
Incidentally, Dominic Thiem will also compete in doubles. And that alongside Joao Sousa, whom he could then face in the Davis Cup in September. From an Austrian point of view, Philipp Oswald (together with Robin Haase) and Sam Weissborn with Roman Arneodo are also represented in the double tableau.
