Yevgeny Kafelnikov, Nikolay Davydenko, Marat Safin, Daniil Medvedev - and now Andrey Rublev. This is the list of Russian players who have qualified at least once for the final of the eight best players of the year. So far, Davydenko was the only Russian who could actually win the Masters: in 2009 in the final against Juan Martin del Potro. Andrey Rublev, despite his five tournament victories in 2020, can be trusted, but the Vienna winner will not start as a favorite in the O2 Arena from November 15th.
This burden will primarily be borne by Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nada l, even if the Spaniard has never been able to win the season finale in his grandiose career. Stefanos Tsitsipas will start the race in London as defending champion. The Greek made a slightly battered impression in Vienna. Dominic Thiem , finalist 2019, and Djokovic will not participate in the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Paris-Bercy this week. Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev are also qualified.
Rublev in the top ten for the first time
Rublev started the year as number 23 in the world - and after his success at the ATP Tour 500 tournament in St. Petersburg, he was among the top ten in the ATP charts for the first time.
For last place, Diego Schwartzman, who was able to reach the semi-finals at the French Open, is the favorite in the last few weeks of the tournament. Schwartzman is seeded eighth in Paris - and after a bye in his first match, he will face either Richard Gasquet or Taylor Fritz.
