Denis Shapovalov had to say goodbye early in Gstaad

Sensation in Gstaad: Wimbledon semi-finalist Denis Shapovalov had to admit defeat to the Czech Vit Kopriva 6: 2, 3: 6 and 2: 6 on his debut on the ATP tour in the second round of the ATP 250 tournament in Gstaad. The tenth in the world rankings made far too many mistakes, especially in the second and third sets, so the top seeded Canadian had to leave the Bernese Oberland early.

Kopriva now meets Mikael Ymer in a real surprise quarter-final, who defeated Feliciano Lopez 6: 7 (6), 7: 6 (7) and 6: 4 after defending two match points.

In addition, Casper Ruud and Benoit Paire celebrated their entry into the round of eight on Thursday: The Norwegian beat the Austrian Dennis Novak in two sets , the French "bad boy" profited from his surrender after winning the first round Opponent Tallon Griekspoor. Ruud and Paire now meet.

In the lower half of the table, Hugo Gaston, Cristian Garin, Laslo Djere and Arthur Rinderknech had already booked their place in the quarter-finals on Wednesday.
