What do Carlos Alcaraz and Dominic Stricker have in common? The two youngsters are predicted to have a great career in their home country, and even to follow in the footsteps of their great role models from their own country, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, is predicted for the two 18-year-olds. Not without reason, especially in the last two years, the two youngsters have also made a name for themselves on the ATP tour, the Spaniard Alcaraz only reached his first final on the tour yesterday, Saturday.

Its Swiss counterpart has not yet succeeded in doing this, but Dominic Stricker caused a sensation these days in pair skating. Specifically at the home event in Gstaad, where the French Open Junior Champion from last year fought his way into the final alongside his compatriot Marc-Andre Huesler - and in this also kept the upper hand. On Sunday the two local heroes defeated the Polish duo Walkow / Zielinski.

Alcaraz also sets a record

In addition to honoring his first title win on the very big tennis stage (and by the way also in front of a home crowd), the Swiss managed to break a year-old record set by Roger Federer. At the age of 19, he was the youngest player in the Open Era to win the title in pair skating in Gstaad. At that time, the 20-time Grand Slam winner served alongside Marat Safin.

Carlos Alcaraz, mentioned at the beginning, also set a record this weekend with his entry into the finals in Umag, the Iberian is now the youngest player to achieve this at the tournament that was founded in 1990. In addition, the age difference in the final of the ATP 250 event is also a rarity. Final opponents Gasquet and Alcaraz have been apart for a full 17 years. Only in the final between Alex de Minaur and Roger Federer (18) in Basel 2019 were there more.
