Despite his knee problems in the past few days, Alexander Zverev confidently reached the quarter-finals at the ATP tournament in Halle / Westphalia. The fifth in the world rankings, who injured his left knee in his opening win against Robin Haase (Netherlands) on Monday, won 6-3, 7-5 against Steve Johnson (USA) on Thursday.

After 1:16 hours, Zverev converted his first match ball and returned the defeat in the only duel to date with Johnson at the Masters in Miami in 2016.

In the quarterfinals on Friday, Zverev meets David Goffin, he has not yet lost to the Belgian (two wins). The ATP champion from Hamburg is the last remaining of six Germans who started at the Noventi Open; apart from Zverev, only Jan-Lennard Struff (Warstein) had reached the round of 16.

Zverev is among the last eight of the lawn tournament for the third time after 2016 and 2017. He then reached the final in both years, but was left behind against Florian Mayer (Bayreuth) and the Swiss record winner Roger Federer.
