Wimbledon is just around the corner. In just two weeks, tennis will start the third Grand Slam tournament of the year in Mecca, so the number of participants in the 500 events taking place these days in Halle/Westphalia and in London's Queen's Club is correspondingly well filled.
In Germany, Daniil Medvedev is even number one in the world. The Russian is not allowed to play in Wimbledon due to the exclusion of Russian and Belarusian players, but the reigning US Open champion did not want to miss the grass season. Last week Medvedev lost to surprise man Tim van Rijthoven in the final of the ATP 250 tournament in 's'-Hertogenbosch .
And the first task in Halle/Westphalia is also difficult for Medvedev, as he has to deal with the former top ten man David Goffin. Number two of the tournament is Stefanos Tsitsipas, who could already meet Nick Kyrgios in round two. Defending champion Ugo Humbert will measure himself against Radu Albot at the start.
In the Queen's Club, French Open finalist Casper Ruud leads the field, but the tournament favorite is on the other side of the tableau. Because Matteo Berrettini not only won the event in Stuttgart on Sunday , but also starts in London as the defending champion. However, the draw was not particularly good for the Italian: After a potentially tricky opening duel against Dan Evans, Berrettini could already face Stuttgart final opponent Andy Murray in round two.
