The Italian, who is starting in the Californian desert for the fourth time, showed all his fighting spirit in "Stadion 2". Berrettini was able to turn a 2:5 deficit in the second set and advance to the next round after an hour and 32 minutes.
"It means a lot [to reach the fourth round]," Berrettini said in his on-pitch interview. "I like the conditions but for some reason I've never been able to play my best tennis here. I'm happy with my performance, Lloyd is a tough opponent. It feels really nice to reach the fourth round for the first time. Every year I improve.”
Kecmanovic beats van de Zandschulp
"I got a bit nervous though," added Berrettini. "I didn't like the start of the second set. It helped let the anger out a little. I then found the right balance.” Matteo Berrettini now meets Miomir Kecmanovic, who was in the fourth round of the Australian Open and won today 7:6 and 7:5 against Botic van de Zandschulp.
