World number one Daniil Medvedev celebrated his first tournament win of the season. The 26-year-old Russian won the final of the ATP tournament in Los Cabos, Mexico, against third-placed defending champion Cameron Norrie (Great Britain) 7-5, 6-0.
It was Medvedev's 14th tournament win on the ATP Tour and the first since his US Open triumph last year, ending a streak of five straight finals defeats including at the Australian Open earlier in the year to Rafael Nadal .
"Every match was very good, but the final is always something special," said Medvedev, who scraped his hand towards the end of the first set and had to be treated: "In the final you play against the best player of the week, so it's always It was a high level match and I'm really happy that I was able to show a good level and some good shots in such an important match."
