Three titles in a row in Marseille - no player on the ATP tour has ever achieved that. And Stefanos Tsitsipas, who won the French port city in 2019 and 2020, will not make it for the time being. The Greek was defeated by local hero Pierre-Hugues Herbert 7: 6 (6), 4: 6 and 2: 6. After a playing time of 2:06 hours, Herbert transformed his first match point with a smash and accepted his opponent's congratulations in the empty hall in Marseille.
Herbert's opponent in the semi-final will definitely be a compatriot: Either Ugo Humbert or surprise man Arthur Rinderknech.
The second match of the semifinals also has a man to offer that one would not have expected at this stage of the tournament: Matthew Ebden, the Australian qualifier, defeated the higher-rated Karen Khachanov in three sets. On the other hand, tournament favorite Daniil Medvedev , who defeated Jannik Sinner 6: 2 and 6: 4, showed no nakedness.
