Daniil Medvedev is in the quarter-finals in Marseille

Jannik Sinner learns every week: Most recently at the 500cc in Rotterdam, the 18-year-old South Tyrolean beat David Goffin for the first time a top ten player. Only to bite his teeth in a dramatic match on Pablo Carreno Busta afterwards. One category lower now in Marseille, Sinner started flawlessly against Daniil Medvedev - and took the first set from the US Open finalist last year 6-1.

Medvedev, however, only shook himself briefly. And then simply set his own mistakes. And forced the teenager to take more and more risks. That couldn't go well, especially in the second set, which Medvedev won 6-1. And there was no longer any tension in the decision: Medvedev started with two breaks and ended the game after exactly 80 minutes of play. The number one of the tournament in Marseille will meet Gilles Simon, who defeated Aljaz Bedene, in the quarterfinals on Friday.

Shapovalov beats Cilic

Denis Shapovalov is also in the top eight. The Canadian took almost exactly two hours to leave Marin Cilic 6: 4, 4: 6 and 6: 2. Shapovalov now plays against Alexander Bublik, who defeated local hero Benoit Paire on Wednesday.

Jürgen Melzer left alongside Edouard Roger-Vasselin. The Lower Austrian and his French partner lost 3: 6 and 4: 6 to the duo Nicolas Mahut and Vasek Pospisil.
