Dennis Novak survived the qualification for the ATP Tour 250 tournament in Marseille: The Austrian number three defeated the German Matthias Bachinger with 7: 6 (4), 2: 6 and 6: 3.

Last week, Novak failed in round one of Sergiy Stakhovsky in qualifying for the ATP Tour 500 event in Rotterdam. The man that Bachinger had cleared out of the way in round one of the qualification in Marseille. In the decisive match, Novak narrowly got the first set, Bachinger came relatively easy to equalize. Dennis Novak, who was only a few weeks ago in the top 100 in the ATP world rankings, made an early break in the decision. The Lower Austrian defended this until the end. Even if Bachinger was able to fend off two match balls in the very last game - the third was sitting after a playing time of 1:55 hours.
In addition to Novak, the two Belarusians Egor Gerasimov and Ilya Ivashka and the Slovakian Norbert Gombos also made the leap into the 28 grid.
In Austrian doubles Jürgen Melzer holds the flag in Marseille: The veteran is in fourth place alongside Edouard Roger-Vasselin, meets Hubert Hurkacz and Gilles Simon with his French partner at the start.
