A proud 73 years of life experience had gathered on both sides of the net on the Center Court in Marseille on Tuesday evening - and in the end Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, who was a year younger, had won against Gilles Simon 6: 2 and 6: 4. The next task will be a lot more difficult: Because Tsonga meets Félix Auger-Aliassime in the round of 16. The Canadian only won his first tournament on the ATP tour on Sunday in Rotterdam with a final win against Stefanos Tsitispas.
Tsitsipas is also at the start in Marseille, the Greek starts after a bye against either Corentin Moutet or Hugo Gaston. Andrey Rublev goes into the 250 event as number two, Rublev serves Richard Gasquet in the round of 16.
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga urgently needs points after a long break due to injury and family reasons. In the current ATP world rankings, the veteran is only ranked 243. In his prime, Tsonga had climbed to fifth place.
