Stefanos Tsitsipas and Marseille - that has almost developed into a sporty love affair in the last two years. Both in 2019 and 2020, the Greek was able to claim victory in the tournament in southern France. So it's no wonder that the organizers can't refuse their double defending champion one or two wishes. For example the one after a wildcard for Brother Petros. He is only 967 in the current ATP world rankings, but has won a round in doubles together with his brother in Rotterdam this week.

However, the task in Marseille could be a little too difficult for Petros Tsitsipas, he was drawn against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. Brother Stefanos goes into the event in second place, waiting for the winner of the match between returnees Lucas Pouille and a qualifier. Tournament favorite Daniil Medvedev plays after a bye against either Yannick Hanfmann or Egor Gerasimov.

Novak could meet Sinner

Dennis Novak , Austria's number two, will also try his hand at Marseille. Novak was assigned a task with Hugo Gaston, which buddy Dominic Thiem had to nibble hard on at the French Open 2020. The good news: The hall surface in Marseille is far less suitable for Gaston's dreaded stops than the deep sand in Roland Garros. Should Novak win, he will play against the winner of the match between Jannik Sinner and Gregoire Barrere.

Incidentally, the Tsitsipas brothers could continue their delicate run of success in doubles: In round one, the two were drawn against Lloyd Glasspool and Hari Heliovara.
