Daniil Medvedev seems to have recovered well from his opening defeat at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Montreal: After the next sovereign performance, the world number one is in the quarterfinals of the CIncinnati Masters event. Medvedev also won in two sets against Denis Shapovalov, who showed good performances after a long dry spell in Ohio.

However, that was not always clear, Shapovalov had anything but a bad day: the Canadian played along happily, risked a lot on both sides and knew how to make his service games successful. Medvedev certainly went along with it - and increased the pressure when the signs were already pointing to a tie-break. The consequence: The world number one managed to break to 7:5.

Rublev out, Tsitsipas for sure

Same game in section two: Again, both athletes showed themselves to be safe on their own serve, but towards the end Shapovalov visibly wobbled. Medvedev struck again in the last imprint before the tie-break - and fixed the deserved 7: 5 and 7: 5 success. Medvedev now meets Taylor Fritz, who caused a small surprise in a short game against Andrey Rublev. Andrey Rublev will leave the top 10 in the world rankings for the first time since 2020.

Like Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas is in an excellent mood to play in Cincinnati: The Greek started perfectly against Diego Schwartzman and, after a short wobble, transported the 4-0 lead to a 6-3 set win. The same key in round two: Tsitsipas controlled what was happening and after almost an hour and a half made the 6: 3 and 6: 3 success perfect.
