Jannik Sinner gave himself the greatest gift on his 21st birthday: The South Tyrolean beat Thanasi Kokkinakis 6: 7 (9), 6: 4 and 7 in the first round of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Cincinnati: 6 (6) through. The twelfth in the world rankings needed three hours and 14 minutes to win.

In the second round, Sinner could face Pablo Carreno Busta on Wednesday. The newly crowned Montreal champion meets Miomir Kecmanovic in the opener. Meanwhile, Rafael Nadal knows his second round opponent: The Spaniard meets Borna Coric on his comeback, who beat Lorenzo Musetti 7: 6 (2) and 6: 3.

Fognini and Fritz continue without any problems

In the upper half of the tournament, Fabio Fognini, among others, bought his ticket for the second round: The Italian lucky loser defeated Albert Ramos-Vinolas 6:2 and 6:3. Taylor Fritz had even fewer problems, who gave Sebastian Baez no chance in the 6-1 and 6-1 success.

The American faces Nick Kyrgios in the second round. The Australian won his opening game against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina despite minor physical problems with 7:5 and 6:4.
