Even the first set in the duel between Stefanos Tsitsipas and Lorenzo Sonego was hard fought - and had the better end for the Italian, who won the set with 7: 5. From there on, Tsitsipas gained a little, won the second round 6: 3 and finally, after almost two and a half hours, won the quarter-final ticket with a 6: 4 in set three.
In this, the Greek is now against Felix Auger-Aliassime, who surprisingly knocked Matteo Berrettini out of the tournament. The young Canadian prevailed 6: 4 and 6: 3 and can now speak of a successful rehabilitation after the poor performance at the tournament in his home country, the ATP Masters 1000 event in Toronto.
Zverev meets Ruud
The second quarter-finals on the lower half of the draw are contested by Alexander Zverev and Casper Ruud. The German had made short work of Guido Pella on Thursday evening , and Ruud had hardly any problems with Diego Schwartzman either. The Norwegian has presented himself extremely well in form in the last few weeks, even though the sand is of course Ruud's clear favorite surface.

The upper half of the tableau, however, is firmly in Russian hands. The first quarter-finals will be played by Daniil Medvedev and Pablo Carreno Busta, the second by Andrey Rublev and Benoit Paire. While Rublev is a clear favorite, the starting position in the case of Medvedev, second in the world rankings, is not so clear. The Russian had only failed in the quarter-finals against the Spaniard a few weeks ago in Tokyo.
