A few days ago, meeting a top player was more of a rude awakening for Alexander Zverev. The German won a duel with Andrey Rublev with strong performances in Doha, but had to admit defeat to the Russian. Even if Zverev was able to keep the match open for the entire duration.

Now, in Indian Wells, the Hamburg native has another chance to secure his first win against a top 10 player since the injury break. The task could not be harder, however, as it is against the Russian Daniil Medvedev, who is in a rush to win. But, a glimmer of hope, he doesn't seem to be completely satisfied with the conditions in Indian Wells.

Zverev continued without shine

After entering the round of 16, Zverev was initially very satisfied - although the performance of the match was anything but outstanding: "I lost a lot of close matches here, so I really wanted to win. I didn't I played my best tennis, he did. I'm all the happier with this win."

For the encounter with the German, opponent Daniil Medvedev anticipates that this could "bring a lot of long rallies". Given the slow conditions, the Russian considers the serve factor to be negligible. "It will be interesting," emphasized Medvedev, who believes that the German Zverev is constantly "better and better". A normal process quite easy when you are on your way back.

In general, Medvedev, who also looked back on the close duels at the end of the 2021 season, had nothing but praise for his designated opponent: "He was one of the best players on the tour, close to the top position in the world rankings. His injury was bad luck, but he'll be back, I'm sure of it." Zverev, on the other hand, was less concerned with the upcoming opponent: "Let's continue."
