Daniil Medvedev is unstoppable. Especially not after a two-day break that the schedule allowed the Russian. And certainly not from Frances Tiafoe, against whom Medvedev also won the fifth encounter, this time 7: 5 and 7: 6 (4).

This means that the winning streak of the US Open champion from 2021 has grown to 19 games, which Medvedev collected in Rotterdam, Doha, Dubai and over the past few days in Indian Wells. Whether there will be victory number 20 depends on Jannik Sinner or Carlos Alcaraz. The two youngsters are contesting the second semi-final of the 1000s at Tennis Paradise.

Medvedev needs eight match points

The match against Tiafoe was extremely balanced in the first set up to the eleventh game, the servers set the tone. Until Tiafoe opened the door a little bit. And Medvedev marched through with verve.

In the second act, the favorite started with a break, but failed to pull away from Tiafoe to make it 4-1 on serve. The local hero suddenly smelled a rat, but was unable to take advantage of a chance to rebreak. After 80 minutes of play, Medvedev earned his first two match balls as a return player, and in the second a passing ball got stuck on the edge of the net. After Tiafoe also saved a third chance, Daniil Medvedev had to end the game with his own service.

Surprisingly, Medvedev did not manage that. Without Tiafoe having to do much about it. A few minutes later, Medvedev got the break back. And initially didn't manage to convert a 40:0 and thus three more match points into the final. After defending Medvedev's seventh (!) match point, Frances Tiafoe actually made it into a tiebreak. Medvedev quickly led 5:1, Tiafoe came back. Medvedev then used his eighth match point with an ace.
