ATP Masters Indian Wells: The chances of a home win are still intact!
With Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe, two local heroes are still represented in the ATP Masters 1000 tournament. Both face big chunks in the quarterfinals.

Tommy Paul has had a remarkably good 2023 season so far. In the race, the American was fifth before the start of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Indian Wells, so there will be a few shifts after the first 1000 of the year. But Paul will still be in a good position to qualify for the ATP Finals in Turin for the first time. Just like his buddy Taylor Fritz did in 2022.

Speaking of Fritz: He can still dream of defending his title in Indian Wells. The round of 16 success against Marton Fucsovics was not as smooth as the result of 6: 4 and 6: 3 suggests. Ultimately, Fritz didn't care. He didn't use too much energy. He will also need that against Jannik Sinner now.
Norrie wins at Indian Wells in 2021
Tommy Paul, on the other hand, only looks on as an uninvolved person, if at all. And that will hurt him, with some justification. He was already 3-0 in the third set against Félix Auger-Aliassime, had a 0:40 with three match points when the Canadian served, and led 6:3 in the decisive tie-break. And still left the court as a loser. The only consolation is a look at the tableau: Because Carlos Alcaraz would not have been a dream lot in the quarter-finals.
But who is that at this stage of the tournament? Certainly not Cameron Norrie, who won the only autumn edition in Indian Wels just under a year and a half ago. Norrie could ensure that there is no home win in the lower half of the tableau. Or at least less likely. Because the Brit meets Frances Tiafoe (today from 7 p.m. live on Sky and WOW), the second local hero left in the 128 grid. And the only encounter between the two in 2021 in Delray Beach was won by Cameron Norrie.
