Thiem has played against Mannarino nine times so far. And won eight of those nine games. So the signs are good for the Indian Wells champion of 2019. If Thiem asserts himself, it would be against Lorenzo Musetti in round two, after which Jannik Sinner could wait.

Like all seeded players, Alexander Zverev starts with a bye. The German will play his first match against either Pedro Cachin or Nikoloz Basilashvili.

The tableau is led by Carlos Alcaraz in front of Stefanos Tsitsipas and Casper Ruud. Rafael Nadal is out due to injury, Novak Djokovic withdrew at the last moment because he didn't get an entry permit to the USA.

This is how the quarter-final games look like according to the draw and seeding list:

Carlos Alcaraz (ESP/1) Felix Auger-Aliassime (CAN/8)
Taylor Fritz (USA/4) Holger Run (DEN/7)
Casper Ruud (NOR/3) Daniil Medvedev (RUS/5)
Stefanos Tsitsipas (GRE/2) Andrey Rublev (RUS/6)
