ATP Masters Indian Wells: Will Alexander Zverev end Daniil Medvedev's streak?

Alexander Zverev has not yet had to get the big chunk out of the way as part of his comeback. Well, Taylor Fritz, against whom Zverev had to compete in the United Cup, can now be counted among the absolute best in the world. But the meeting with the American number one clearly came too early for his German counterpart. In addition, in a competition that you don't necessarily have to take very seriously - although ATP points are also awarded in the United Cup.

In Indian Wells, Zverev could now have a really nice intermediate test on the way to old championship honors in the round of 16. If he beats Emil Ruusuvuori himself (not an easy task, the Finn won the only match between the two so far in Miami in 2021). And if Daniil Medvedev wins against Ilya Ivashka.

Medvedev with a difficult start

Then there would be the 13th duel between Zverev and Medvedev, the balance is balanced. But it would also mean that the Russian would then have won 16 matches in a row. On three different continents: first five games in Rotterdam, then a total of nine in Doha and Dubai. And two at Tennis Paradise in the Californian desert. Getting into Indian Wells was more difficult for Medvedev than the result of 6: 4 and 6: 3 against Brandon Nakashima would suggest.

He felt like he was on a clay court, said Medvedev after his win against the American. As a result, one long rally followed the next. Fortunately, the ATP Masters 1000 tournaments only play for two winning sets. And in Indian Wells, players also get a rest day between their matches.

A meeting with Medvedev would be the next nice location for Zverev, who, attention: semi-heavy chunk, was defeated in Dubai in the semifinals by Andrey Rublev.

Zverev wins at the ATP Finals 2021

Most recently, Medvedev and Zverev met at the ATP Finals 2021 in Turin: In the group phase, the Russian was just ahead, in the final Alexander Zverev returned the favor quite clearly.
